I am SM/ruin (well, at least I´m SM and the rest in destro since I´m only level 54) and I do as following when it's 1:1: - Always use succubus. - Open the fight by seducing your target (if it's 1:1). If I´m fighting a hunter, I seduce the hunter and then start channeling fear towards the pet. - Start channeling Soul Fire towards your target. - Cast various DoT:s. - Fear. - Channel Shadow Bolt. And sooner or later he will be dead.
If it's 1:2, I might do something like this: - Seduce one of the targets (if a healer is one of them, seduce him). - Fear the other one. - Cast Soul Fire on the seduced one. - Spam DoT:s on him. - Cast a new fear on the other target. - Kill the first one. - Concentrate on the one who was feared.
Since I`m engineer also I often have stun grenades with me and I currently use my net-o-matic trinket for extra crowdcontrol (vs melee targets). I very seldom loose against those in my level range. I can even handle two at the same time if they're at my level range. I can only recall once when I've lost to a lower level (warlock) in 1:1. But when I logged in on my alliance char to ask how the hell he managed to kill me so easily, he showed off three epics he had. Apparently he was a twink.

I must add though that I have most problems against hunters as their pet hurts like hell. I have it easier agaisnt other locks, since after I manage to banish their pet, I only have to focus on the warlock. Start with seducing the warlock while you banish his pet. He can't banish yours if he's seduced. It's the matter of who does the first strike.

I'm all in affliction myself (dark pact), and now putting the rest of the points into destruction. So not that much different from Manovan. Most of the time I don't have my succubus out though, as grinding yellow mobs with it makes much more downtime, at least for me. I use my VW mostly then, but it's actually pretty good. If I get jumped it's usually by a rogue who ambushes me.. then it's VW sac, deathcoil and HS depending how much he hurt me there. Deathcoil gives time to cast fear (at you level, I suggest saccing VW and just fearing normally... you'd be surprised of how many rogues can't find their button for kick fast enough) and then it's dot's and amplified CoExhaustion and they can't get to me even with a sprint. In closed quarters I have to spam fear in between some bolts, and am much more likely to get killed as well. Also depends heavily on whatever mob I was killing at the time he attacked.
In BGs I use pretty much felhunter, and try to interrupt the healers with it. Sometimes I've used succu there, but it just doesn't seem to be working as someone ususlly goes in and hits the seduced anyway. Otherwise, I try to throw in my dots, curse of tongues and fear, and start nuking with bolts. If they don't pick me as a target, I can usually manage to do pretty much damage and keep one key opponent out of the game long enough.

Oh yeah, seing Manovans message about the hunters, I have to agree they're a pain in the as*. 1 on 1 against hunters is a situation where you really would like your succy to seduce him. Most of the time I try to fear their pet, unless it's huge, as then it's on it's enraged mode and can't be feared.. then it's curse of weakness for it. After that... fast dps on the hunter, maybe deathcoil to buy some time, shadowburn, dots and the usual.. but they're hard without succubus at least.

I often forget to cast CoW on the pet since I very seldom use that spell, but my net-o-matic is a matter of life and death against hunters as if I succeed to get the pet immobilized, the hunter is no big problem. If I would be able to fear the pet though, I can hit the hunter with the net and nuke him from his defenseless range.

By the way, has anyone realized that the new rules really help us locks out there a lot! With dots not breaking fear that easily you have much more time on your hands and they are eating up your opponents life really good too.
