If we wish to join a raid do we have to change our specs or does it depend upon the group, dungeon or something else ? I'll change spec if i really have to (it's best to say it now then when I go attached to my spec )

Play how you want to play....I find the people who ask you to change your spec simply don't understand how your class works. Mostly they know some of the talents or maybe even played teh class before and thought this was the best spec for raids. Persoanlly some builds are more viable for PvE but even PvP specs have a place in the raid...just not as obvious

That may be true for some classes but for Zul Gurrub and higher some classes really do need to respec if they want to play a certain role. For example the main tank definitely needs to be prot spec to be able to keep aggro more effectively. The priest if he wants to be a healer really needs to be disc/holy or holy/disc, not only for the aggro reduction abilities but also over long fights his mana will last a lot longer than a shadow specced priest acting as a healer. I'm not saying it's absolutely necessary, but it makes things easier if you are raid specced.
A Shadow priest in a raid situation ... it's something that i am unsure about, I just don't see how (having been shadow up to and at level 60) you'd be able to keep mana during those long boss fights, I guess it's all about kit. Get some nice mana/5 second kit and you can mindflay for weeks, healing the raid at the same time. Is Gahs staying shadow do we know?
Other classes I don't really know about.
After all that though, I second the notion of play how you like to play. Me, i like to heal, i enjoy it and my spec makes me able to do it in a much more efficient way. I tried being shadow at 60 and had about +260 spell damage/shadow damage gear for a while. My pvp rocked but i felt like i didn't really have a role to play when it came to pve, and i got bored of mindflaying alliance in wsg pretty quickly!

My dear allies,
You might have noticed I was acting a bit…strange lately, especially when I walked in the shadows. I apologize to those I might have insulted or threatened. After all these years I walked in the shadows, it started to consume me. I had become my own shadow here.
While risking her own life, a loyal member of our house: Faatimah, helped me to show my way out of this. I had to travel to the Nether to defeat my darker self. I had to die…and I did. After an immense struggle with my corrupted alter-ego, which seemed to take ages, I had overcome. The shadow inside me was defeated.
With the help of our plague spreader, priest and personal friend Okulos, I returned. Although I’m not sure if Okulos would have helped me return if he knew in front that I had banished the shadow and choose a new path….the path of light. Now, my dear allies… with my new powers, I’m ready to assist you on our fight against our enemies.
May the Dark Lady guard your path!
Gahs, Priest of Light in the House of Sylvanas
((As some of you already know, but most of you probably don’t, Gahs is respecced to holy/disc For I was mostly a main-healer in the latest runs, I thought this was the best thing to do. ))
